Opinion: Predicting the Ideal Running Mate for Warda Dg Mamala

By: Om Hendly

If Warda Dg Mamala, SE truly moves forward as a candidate for Regent of North Morowali, then one key question inevitably arises: who is the most rational and advantageous figure to accompany him?

The choice of a running mate is not merely about personal closeness or shared party colors. It is about balancing power, expanding electoral reach, and delivering a clear political message to the public.

From several names analyzed by the editorial team, it is evident that Warda has many strong options. Yet therein lies the challenge: choosing the most needed figure, not simply the closest one.

If the “yellow–yellow” scenario (Golkar–Golkar) is pursued, names such as Yaristan Palesa, SH or Fanny Mistika Tampake, M.Kom fall within the innermost circle. Yaristan is a figure who has long been “in sync” with Warda in party political work. This closeness is precisely what makes the pair appear effective, as both are already united within the same structure.

Meanwhile, a Warda–Fanny pairing would offer a strong symbol of female leadership, solid internal Golkar cohesion, and a message of regeneration.

However, the risk of a yellow–yellow ticket lies in limited base expansion, as both candidates would be drawing support from relatively similar political constituencies.

On the other hand, if Warda seeks to broaden his spectrum and send a more inclusive leadership signal, then figures such as Dr. Mardiman Sane, SH., MH or Dr. Frits Sam Purnama Kandori become compelling. Mardiman brings a combination of intellectual capacity, national networks, and the image of a successful Mori native beyond the region—an added value for North Morowali as it looks for a developmental leap. Meanwhile, Frits Sam Kandori presents the profile of a bureaucrat-academic who understands government from within, forming a technocratic partnership that appears relatively safe and rational. Both are Mori natives holding doctoral degrees.

Yet, when reading current local political trends, a coalition scenario appears the most realistic. In this context, the name Ruben Hehi emerges as one of the most logical options. A Golkar–NasDem coalition is not merely about seat counts, but about uniting two proven bases. Warda, known for his communicative style, and Ruben, recognized for his calm and consistent approach, could form a complementary pair: one strong in party machinery, the other strong in grassroots consolidation.

Ultimately, Warda Dg Mamala’s running mate will likely be determined by three key factors:

• The direction of party coalition,

• The need to add new voter bases, and

• The message of change or stability to be offered to the people of North Morowali.

If Warda opts for safety, an internal cadre will be the choice. If he aims to leap further ahead, then a coalition figure or a professional background may be the answer. Politics is always about reading momentum, and in this case, Warda’s running mate will reflect the political path he chooses: strengthening what already exists, or opening a new road forward.

Note: This is purely an editorial analysis; other potential names may well emerge.
